Setting follower combat style via dialogue

Open the dialogue menu with any follower, select 'UFO - Follower Management', then 'Combat Style'. Choose 'Archer' for ranged followers like Aela, or 'Berserker' for melee tanks like Mjoll. This overrides their default AI and makes them more effective in specific roles. Ensure you have the UFO MCM (Mod Configuration Menu) enabled via SkyUI to fine-tune aggression and confidence values.

Preventing follower death in high-level content

In the MCM (Settings > Follower Options), set 'Essential Followers' to 'On' for all followers. This makes them unkillable except by player damage. For a more immersive but safe approach, set it to 'Only Quest Followers' to protect characters like Serana during Dawnguard quests. Use the console command 'setessential <refID> 1' as a backup if the MCM option fails.

Recruiting multiple followers without breaking quests

To recruit a follower like Lydia and then add a quest follower like Barbas, use the dialogue 'Follow me. I need your help' on each. Conflict with 'EFF - Extensible Follower Framework' causing duplicate follower menus or CTDs when both are active.

Do not run UFO and EFF together. If you must, uninstall one completely via your mod manager, then run a clean save with 'ReSaver' to remove orphaned scripts. For UFO specifically, ensure it loads AFTER 'Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch' (USSEP) and BEFORE 'Relationship Dialogue Overhaul' (RDO) in your load order, as RDO overrides some follower dialogue and can cause mismatched menus.

Followers stuck in 'sandbox' mode and not following after using the 'Wait' command or entering a city.

This often happens when 'Amazing Follower Tweaks' (AFT) is present, as both mods modify the follower AI package. To fix, open the console, click the stuck follower, and type 'resetai'. Then use the UFO dialogue option 'Follow me' again. If it persists, disable AFT's follower AI package in its MCM, or move UFO's ESP above AFT in load order to let UFO control AI.
