Xray 1.16.5

Xray 1.16.5 is a resource pack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.16.5 that makes ores, lava, and other valuable blocks visible through solid stone by using transparent textures. It works by replacing the block textures of stone, dirt, and other common blocks with fully transparent images, while leaving ore textures opaque. Players install it to find diamonds, netherite, and other ores quickly, but it is considered cheating on multiplayer servers and is often banned by anti-cheat plugins.

🎯 Tips & Tricks

Install the pack correctly for Java edition

Download the Xray 1.16.5 .zip file, then place it in your .minecraft/resourcepacks folder (Windows: %appdata%\.minecraft\resourcepacks). Launch Minecraft 1.16.5, go to Options > Resource Packs, and move Xray from 'Available' to 'Selected'. Then click 'Done' and wait for the pack to load. Note: This pack does NOT work on Bedrock—for Bedrock, use the separate Xray pack for Windows 10 (the path you mentioned is for Bedrock).

Use with OptiFine for full brightness to see ores in dark caves

Install OptiFine for 1.16.5, then in Video Settings > Brightness, set to 'Bright' (or use the keybind 'F' to toggle fullbright). This ensures ores are visible even in complete darkness, because the transparent stone still has no light. Also set 'Gamma' to 100% in the options file (options.txt) for maximum effect.

Toggle Xray on/off with a hotkey for easy switching

If you use a mod like 'Tweakeroo' or 'Xaero's Minimap', you can bind a key to switch resource packs. Alternatively, manually switch via the Resource Packs menu (F3+T to reload). For a faster method, install the 'Resource Pack Toggler' mod (for Fabric/Forge) and set a keybind like 'X' to toggle between Xray and your normal pack.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Xray doesn't work with Sodium/Iris (Fabric) because the pack relies on vanilla texture rendering that Sodium optimizes away

Sodium's renderer culls transparent blocks, making Xray useless (you'll see solid stone). Switch to OptiFine for 1.16.5, or install 'Sodium Extra' and set 'block_face_culling' to false in its config. Alternatively, use the Fabric mod 'Xray Mod' (by Draylar) which works with Sodium and requires no resource pack.

On multiplayer servers, anti-cheat plugins like NoCheatPlus or AAC detect Xray by logging block break patterns and flag you for 'impossible mining'

To avoid bans, only use Xray on single-player or private servers. If you must use it on a server, use the 'Xray Mod' with 'pause on command' feature—bind a key to disable the pack before mining. Also, never mine straight to a diamond vein—mine in a zigzag pattern to mimic normal behavior.
