goblin missionary

minecraft — Mods & Enhancements

goblin missionary

This mod adds a new hostile mob, the Goblin Missionary, a green-skinned, robed goblin that spawns in villages and temples, attempting to convert villagers and players to its 'goblin faith' through a unique conversion mechanic. It changes village dynamics by making goblins steal emeralds, convert villagers into goblin followers, and occasionally drop 'holy texts' that grant temporary buffs when read. Players install it to add a humorous, chaotic twist to village life, introducing new combat encounters and a quirky lore element to their survival worlds.

🎯 Tips & Tricks

Kill the Goblin Missionary before it converts your villagers

When you see a goblin with a red robe near a village, prioritize killing it using a bow or sword with Smite V (it counts as undead). If it gets within 5 blocks of a villager, it will start a 10-second conversion ritual—interrupt it by hitting the goblin, or the villager becomes a 'Goblin Follower' that attacks you.

Use the 'holy text' drop for a temporary strength boost

Goblins have a 15% chance to drop a 'Goblin Holy Text' item. Right-click it while holding to read it, which gives you Strength II and Resistance I for 30 seconds, but also applies a 'Confusion' effect (nausea) for 5 seconds. Best used before a boss fight, not while swimming.

Prevent goblin spawns in your base

Goblin Missionaries spawn in any structure with a 'village' tag. Place torches (light level above 8) in a 32-block radius around your base, and use the command '/gamerule doMobSpawning false' to disable all hostile spawns if they're overwhelming. Alternatively, craft a 'Goblin Repellent' from 3 emeralds and 1 ghast tear, which you place on a fence post to create a 20-block exclusion zone.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Goblins convert villagers even when you're not nearby, causing entire villages to turn hostile and break iron golem spawning with 'Iron Golems' mod

This mod has a known conflict with 'Iron Golems: Better Villagers'—both modify villager AI. Install the 'Goblin Missionary Compatibility Patch' from CurseForge, or in the config (config/goblin_missionary.cfg), set 'conversionRange=0' to disable auto-conversion, forcing goblins to only convert when you're within 10 blocks.

Game crash with 'ClassCastException: EntityVillager cannot be cast to EntityGoblinFollower' when using 'Custom NPCs' mod

The issue is that both mods override villager entity interactions. In the Custom NPCs mod, open its config and set 'villagerIntegration=false'. If that doesn't work, use a mod like 'UniDict' to remap the entity IDs, or simply remove the Custom NPCs mod from your mods folder—the goblin mod doesn't need it.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

  • Players often kill the goblin missionary with a fire aspect sword, which burns the 'holy text' drop, losing the buff item. Use a non-fire weapon or quickly pick up the drop before it burns.
  • Trying to trade with a converted villager (goblin follower) using emeralds—goblin followers don't trade; they steal your emeralds and attack. Attack them first or run away to avoid losing items.
