arthette model for ellie

This mod replaces the default Ellie NPC model (from the 'Jenny' mod series) with a custom high-poly model of Artette, a character from the 'Baldur's Gate 3' style modding scene. It swaps the base geometry, textures, and rigging, giving Ellie a more detailed face, custom hair, and unique outfit textures while keeping the original animations and dialogue system intact. Players install this to refresh the visual identity of Ellie without breaking quests or dialogue triggers.

🎯 Tips & Tricks

Install this AFTER the base Ellie mod in your mod manager

In Vortex or Mod Organizer 2, place 'arthette-model-for-ellie' below 'jenny-mod' and any texture packs. If using MO2, right-click the mod and select 'Send to bottom' of the left pane. The model files must overwrite the original Ellie .nif or .mesh files, otherwise the old model will still load.

Use the correct texture folder path for custom skins

Navigate to your Minecraft instance folder (e.g., .minecraft/resourcepacks or mods folder). The mod expects textures at 'assets/minecraft/textures/models/armor/ellie_arthette.png'. If you want custom colors, edit that PNG with a 64x64 resolution and keep the alpha channel for transparency, then reload with F3+T.

Force a model reload if the old Ellie appears

Open the chat and type '/reload_models' (if using the Custom NPC Mod) or '/reload' if using Forge with OptiFine. If that doesn't work, delete the file 'entity_cache.dat' in the world save folder (world/data/) and restart the game. This clears the old entity model cache.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Crash with 'Ellie' mod when both use the same entity ID (e.g., 512)

Edit the entity ID in the mod's config file: open 'config/arthette_model_for_ellie.cfg' and change 'entityID' from 512 to 513. Then restart the game. This avoids conflict with the 'Jenny' mod's base entity.

Invisible model when using Sodium or Embeddium (performance mods)

This mod uses custom shaders for the hair. Disable 'Sodium: Entity Culling' in the Sodium settings (Options > Video Settings > Sodium > Advanced > Entity Culling = OFF). Alternatively, install the 'Iris' shader mod and set the shader to 'Internal' to force compatibility.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

  • Replacing the model files manually in the .jar without using a mod manager, which breaks the directory structure and causes the game to crash on load. Always use a mod manager or extract the zip properly into the mods folder.
  • Forgetting to remove the old Ellie model resource pack, which still overrides the new Artette textures, resulting in a mix of old and new body parts. Disable any previous Ellie skin packs in the resource pack list.
