ankha cat model for jenny

This mod replaces the default Jenny mod's cat companion model with a custom Ankha-style Egyptian cat model, adding animated ears, tail physics, and a unique idle animation. It requires the Jenny mod (a Forge-based adult NPC mod) and overwrites the original cat's JSON model and texture files, giving the creature a more detailed, animated appearance with golden accessories and a striped pattern. Players install it to add a themed, high-quality visual upgrade to their Jenny cat companion, often for roleplay or aesthetic reasons in modded survival or creative worlds.

🎯 Tips & Tricks

Ensure Jenny mod is loaded first

In your mods folder, place the Jenny mod JAR (e.g., jenny-1.12.2-1.0.jar) before this Ankha model pack. Use a mod manager like MultiMC or manually rename the Ankha JAR to start with 'zzz_' so it loads after Jenny, preventing model conflicts.

Adjust the cat's scale to match vanilla

Open the Ankha model's JSON at assets/jenny/models/entity/cat.json and change the 'scale' value from 1.0 to 0.85 if the cat appears oversized compared to vanilla mobs. This fixes hitbox and animation clipping issues when riding or sitting.

Customize the texture for resource packs

Extract the Ankha texture from the JAR (assets/jenny/textures/entity/ankha.png), edit it in an image editor, and place it in your resource pack under the same path. Use Optifine's custom model features to add emissive eyes or extra layers if you want glowing effects.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Model appears as a pink/black checkerboard or invisible with Jenny mod 1.12.2 and Optifine installed

Optifine's custom entity models conflict with the Ankha model's JSON. Disable 'Custom Entity Models' in Optifine's video settings (Options > Video Settings > Details > Custom Entity Models: OFF), or update to Optifine HD U E7+ which fixes this issue.

Crash on world load with 'ClassCastException: cat cannot be cast to EntityCat' when using the 'Better Animals Plus' mod

This mod and Better Animals Plus both override the cat entity. In your mods folder, remove Better Animals Plus or use a compatibility patch from CurseForge (search 'Ankha Better Animals Patch'). Alternatively, set the Ankha model to only apply to Jenny's cats by editing the model's 'parent' field to 'jenny:cat' instead of 'minecraft:cat'.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

  • Installing this mod without the Jenny mod first causes a crash on startup because the model references Jenny's entity IDs. Always install Jenny as a dependency, not just the Ankha pack alone.
  • Using the model with a vanilla cat spawn egg (via creative mode) replaces ALL cats in the world with the Ankha model, breaking vanilla cat breeding and taming mechanics. Only use the model with Jenny's specific cat spawn, not the vanilla one.
