WASD Character Movement
baldurs-gate-3 — Mods & Enhancements
Replaces the default click-to-move with a fully immersive WASD control scheme, letting you directly control your character in real-time while still supporting turn-based combat. It adds a native third-person camera that follows your character's direction, with adjustable sensitivity and an option to lock the camera behind your character, making exploration feel like a classic ARPG (e.g., Dragon Age or Skyrim). It also integrates with the game's pathfinding, so you can still pause, issue commands, and switch to tactical mode without losing the WASD input.

🎯 Tips & Tricks
After installing, go to Options > WASD Movement Settings and set 'Camera Follow Mode' to 'Smooth Follow' and 'Rotation Speed' to 50%. Then, in the same menu, enable 'Auto-Orbit on Combat Start' so that when combat begins, the camera automatically swings behind your character, preventing disorientation when you switch from exploration to turn-based.
In the WASD settings, enable 'Steady Movement' and bind it to a key (e.g., Left Ctrl). While holding it, you move at 25% speed, which is perfect for sneaking past enemies in areas like the Moonrise Towers prison. This preserves your stealth check bonuses because you're not triggering traps or entering combat accidentally due to fast movement.
If you want to use WASD while also pressing keys 1-9 for abilities, go to Options > Keybindings and set your ability slots to use the number row. The mod does not override these, so you can run forward with 'W' and cast Fireball with '5' simultaneously. For mouse-look, hold the right mouse button to rotate the camera, and use 'Q' and 'E' to strafe.
🔧 Troubleshooting
Character moves at double speed when the game is in turn-based mode and you hold 'W'.
This is a known issue with the mod when combined with 'Tactician Enhanced' (which alters movement speed). Fix: In the WASD mod's settings, set 'Movement Speed Multiplier' to 0.5 if you have Tactician Enhanced active. Alternatively, update to the latest WASD mod version (v1.4+) which has a built-in detection for Tactician Enhanced and auto-corrects.
Camera clips through walls when moving in tight corridors like the Underdark's tunnels.
Install the 'WASD Camera Collision Fix' patch from the mod's optional files. This patch adds a collision raycast that prevents the camera from passing through geometry. If you're using 'Native Camera Tweaks' mod, you must disable its 'Unlocked Camera' option to avoid conflict, as both mods handle camera collision differently.
