No Romance Limit (polyamory mod)

This mod removes the game's hardcoded 'romance lock' that forces you to choose between companions after the Tiefling party in Act 1. It allows you to progress multiple romance storylines simultaneously, including with companions who normally reject you (e.g., Shadowheart + Lae'zel). It also removes the 'jealousy' flags so you can trigger multiple Act 2 and Act 3 romance scenes without any companion getting upset or dumping you.

🎯 Tips & Tricks

Install with Script Extender for full functionality

Download the 'SE' version of the mod (not the 'NoSE' version) and install it via Vortex with the 'Script Extender' plugin enabled. After installation, open the in-game Mod Settings menu (via the 'M' key) and set 'Polyamory Mode' to 'All' to allow romancing companions of the same race/class as each other.

Trigger multiple Act 2 romance scenes in one long rest

To get both Shadowheart's and Lae'zel's Act 2 scenes in the same rest, set the mod's 'Scene Priority' to 'Sequential' in the Mod Settings. Then, before going to camp, make sure your approval with both is above 70. The mod will queue the scenes back-to-back instead of overwriting one with the other.

Avoid the 'Astarion rejection' bug with a manual save edit

If you're romancing Astarion and another companion, the mod sometimes fails to trigger his 'bite' scene. Fix: After Act 1 party, save, then use the 'Save Editor' (from the 'BG3 Save Editor' mod) to set the variable 'ORI_Astarion_Approval_Flags' to 1 for both romance paths. Reload the save and the scene will trigger on the next long rest.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Conflicts with 'ImprovedUI Assets' causing the romance journal to show duplicate entries

This mod edits the same UI strings that ImprovedUI modifies. Fix: Download the 'Compatibility Patch' from the mod's 'Optional Files' section, and load it AFTER both the polyamory mod and ImprovedUI. In Vortex, set the patch to 'Load After' both in the 'Plugins' tab.

Breaks with 'Party Limit Begone' because the extra companions trigger the 'jealousy' script

The jealousy script is hardcoded to the first 4 party slots. Fix: Edit the mod's config file at 'Mods/NoRomanceLimit/Config.json' and set 'MaxRomancePartners' to 8. Then, in 'Party Limit Begone', set the party size to 6 and ensure the polyamory mod is loaded AFTER Party Limit Begone in your load order.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

  • Installing the 'NoSE' version without Script Extender - this version only removes the lock but does NOT fix the 'approval decay' bug, which causes companions to lose approval every long rest when you're romancing multiple people. Always use the SE version.
  • Not setting 'Polyamory Mode' to 'All' - the default is 'Same Race' which means you can ONLY romance multiple companions of the same race (e.g., two humans). This confuses players who wonder why they can't romance Shadowheart and Karlach together (one is half-elf, one is tiefling).
