Mod Configuration Menu (MCM)
baldurs-gate-3 — Mods & Enhancements
Mod Configuration Menu (MCM) is a UI overhaul mod that adds a dedicated 'Mod Settings' tab to both the main menu and the pause (ESC) menu, giving players a graphical interface to adjust mod settings, reassign keybindings, and toggle custom IMGUI widgets (like debug overlays or minimap toggles) without editing .json files. It hooks into the game's IMGUI system via Baldur's Gate 3 Script Extender (BG3SE), allowing mods like 'ImprovedUI' and 'Tactician Plus' to expose their options directly. Players install it because it centralizes all mod configuration, eliminating the need to manually edit config files or use console commands for every mod.

🎯 Tips & Tricks
Press ESC to open the pause menu, then click the 'Mod Settings' button (located between 'Load Game' and 'Options'). If you don't see it, ensure BG3SE is installed and running (check the console with F10). For mods that support it, you can also press F10 to open the MCM overlay directly in the game world, then click 'MCM' tab.
Open MCM (ESC > Mod Settings), select the mod (e.g., 'Tactician Plus'), click 'Keybindings', then click on the action you want to rebind (e.g., 'Toggle Difficulty'). Press the desired key (e.g., 'Y') and confirm. To reset to default, click the 'Reset' button at the bottom. If a mod doesn't appear in MCM, check if it has 'MCM Support' listed on its Nexus page; if not, you must edit its .json manually.
In MCM, go to 'Widgets' section (only visible if you have 'IMGUI Extender' installed). Toggle 'Show FPS Counter' or 'Show Coordinates' to enable debug overlays. For mods like 'Party Limit Begone', you can toggle 'Show Party Member Bars' here. If widgets don't appear, ensure 'IMGUI Extender' is loaded AFTER MCM in BG3MM.
🔧 Troubleshooting
MCM does not appear in the ESC menu after installing, even though BG3SE is running.
This is usually caused by an outdated 'ImprovedUI' mod. MCM requires 'ImprovedUI' v1.0.2 or higher. Update 'ImprovedUI' to the latest version from Nexus (file ID 366), and ensure it's deployed AFTER MCM in Vortex (or below MCM in BG3MM). Also, check that 'Mod Configuration Menu' is not in the 'Override' folder — it must be in 'Active Mods'.
MCM settings are not saved between sessions, and every launch resets to default.
This happens when the MCM config file is not being written due to a permissions issue. Navigate to %LOCALAPPDATA%/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/Mods/MCM/ and check if 'MCMConfig.json' exists. If not, create a blank file. Then, right-click the 'Mods' folder, go to Properties > Security, and give 'Users' full 'Modify' permissions. If using Steam, verify the game's install folder is not read-only.
