Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Fixer

Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Fixer

This .pak file patches the game's story script compilation to allow mods that add new items, spells, or dialogue to load without being rejected by the Full Release's stricter validation. It works by injecting a recompiled version of the game's story scripts via Norbyte's script extender, bypassing the 'Mod is not compatible' error. Players install it primarily to use legacy mods from Early Access or pre-Patch 7 mods that haven't updated their .pak structure, though it is now obsolete for Patch 7+ which natively supports loose file mods.

🎯 Tips & Tricks

Install order with Script Extender

Place Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Fixer AFTER bg3se (Baldur's Gate 3 Script Extender) in Vortex's 'Mods' tab, but BEFORE any mod that adds new spells (like '5e Spells'). In the load order, ensure this .pak is listed above 'GustavDev' in the 'Mods' section of the main menu's Mod Manager. If using a manual install, drop it into 'Data\Mods' and then launch the game once with bg3se console open (F10) to trigger the recompile.

Force recompile via console

If mods still fail to load, open the bg3se console (default F10) and type 'S_RecompileAll' then press Enter. This forces a full story script rebuild, which is necessary after installing this fixer on a save that previously had mods. After the command, save your game, exit, and reload. This specifically resolves 'Error: Story script not found' messages.

Use for mods with custom .lsf files

When using this fixer with mods that alter UI (like 'ImprovedUI' or 'Better Character Creation'), you must also install 'ImprovedUI Assets' separately, because the fixer only patches story scripts, not UI resource files. Place the fixer first, then ImprovedUI, then any .lsf-heavy mods to avoid texture conflicts.

🔧 Troubleshooting

Incompatible with 'Level 20' mod (by LaughingLeader) causing game to crash on load

This happens because Level 20's .pak includes its own story script modifications. The fixer's recompile overwrites them. Solution: Install 'Level 20' AFTER the fixer, and then in the bg3se console run 'S_RecompileAll' once more. Alternatively, use 'Level 20' with Patch 7's native mod support and remove the fixer entirely.

Causes 'Mod verification failed' when used with 'Basket Full of Equipment' (by AnteMax)

Basket Full of Equipment uses a .pak signature that conflicts with the fixer's recompiled scripts. Fix: Open the .pak with 'LSX Tool' and change the 'Version' field in 'meta.lsx' from 16 to 15, then rezip. This aligns the signature with the fixer's expected format. Do not use both mods on Patch 7+.
